The central government has extended the deadline to link your Aadhaar card with the voter ID card till March 31, 2024. Earlier, the deadline was April 1, 2023 and the central government has been sending repeated reminders to everyone as the deadline approaches.
Now, users can link their Aadhaar with their Voter ID online or via SMS. However, the Center has clarified that this is voluntary and not mandatory. According to the Election Commission, linking the Aadhaar card with the voter ID card will help “register the name of the same person in more than one constituency or more than once in the same constituency”.
Ministry of Law and Justice dated March 21, 2023 “The Central Government hereby makes the following amendment in the Ministry of Law and Justice (Legislative Department) Government of India Notification, No. S.O.2893( E), dated the 17th June 2022, namely: – In the notification, for words and figures , “31st March 2024” shall be substituted for “1st April 2023”. said in the notification.
Here’s how to link Aadhaar card with Voter ID card online:
- Visit the official website of National Voter Service Portal (NVSP) – nvsp.in.
- Log in to the portal and go to the “Search Electoral Roll” option on the homepage.
- Give personal details and enter Aadhaar number.
- After entering the Aadhaar details, the user will receive an OTP on the registered mobile number or email.
- Enter the OTP to confirm. Once done, your voter ID card will be linked to Aadhaar card.
